Two words define the DMECO project and its founder Donato Mottola: VISION and INITIATIVE. DMECO’s story started off 30 years ago in a garage where Donato Mottola, objector and maintenance man for electric generators, decided to yearn for something more.Moved by his desire to stand out and his stubbornness, combined with a clear vision of the future, Mr. Mottola developed an interest in the niche market of the enclosures for power generators. This is how the first prototype was born, but Donato Mottola suddenly realized that a prototype is not enough, without a proper commercial strategy. So he engaged a marketing expert to promote his product in the northeast. That’s how DMECO’s story began. In a few years DMECO grew from a garage to a warehouse of 4,600 square meters and 10,000 square meters yard, a million-euro investment in machinery and 50 employees. What today we would call a start-up, became a real industrial company, starting from a difficult area like South Italy. In 2008 the financial crisis broke and, like all businessmen, Donato Mottola was affected too. But what for others was a major blow, which in many cases led to the closure of several businesses, for DMECO it was only a small setback.

Albert Einstein said:

“The crisis is the best blessing that can happen to people and countries, because the crisis brings progress. Creativity is born from the distress, as the day is born from the dark night. It is in crisis that invention, discovery and large strategies are born. Who ever overcomes crisis, outdoes himself without being overcome.”

From this quote, Donato Mottola made a highly expansionary business strategy. His resourcefulness led him, in a time when others stayed “hidden”, to emerge and present itself to foreign markets, from Australia to Cambodia, from the UK to Dubai, from the US to Russia. Starting from the British market in 2008 DMECO was present at EIMA, and since then every edition of that fair has seen this Apulian miracle always in the front row. That is how DMECO UK, DMECO Usa, DMECO Russia, and from Apulia Donato Mottola started to conquer the global market. This is not only a businessman’s story, but it’s a story about the positive side of globalization, a story of vision and resourcefulness, a story of Italian excellence in the world. Donato Mottola has, among others, a feature that best defines him and his action: when he’s focused, he draws a perspective with a small dot.

That dot represents the future, and it’s not far away, nor obscure, it must be simply achieved.
